Frequently Asked Questions

When and where is NGDI?
Orientation will be Monday, July 11 at 6pm. The program begins Monday, July 18 - Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at the Huckabee offices near Hulen Mall in Fort Worth. On Sunday, July 24, we will be traveling to Lubbock, Texas to Texas Tech University to work in the architectural studios. This will be an overnight trip, returning Tuesday, July 28.

How much does it cost?
Nothing - it's absolutely free to you! All it requires is ten days of your time and your own transportation to the Huckabee offices. Lunch will be provided every day, and the trip to Lubbock is totally covered.

How many students will be selected?
Six students will be selected and will be placed into three teams of two.

What is the project?
"AN ADMINISTRATIVE CENTER FOR HABITAT FOR HUMANITY" - The proposed project for 2011 will have students celebrating all that is Habitat for Humanity. Students will work with the Trinity chapter of Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors in order to design an urban Administrative Center that will give the organization a public face. Among the current proposed spaces will be offices for day-to-day employees, intimate meeting rooms for family interviews, tool storage, required ancillary spaces, and a large multi-purpose room. The multi-purpose room will be the main attraction for the center functioning as both a Board Room and a public gallery exhibiting what is going on within Trinity Habitat. This space will also give Trinity Habitat a location to host annual events without having to pay rental fees. By locating the Administrative Center downtown Fort Worth and keeping it open during high traffic events (ArtsFest, Gallery Night, etc.), the general public will be informed about new families, current projects, and volunteer opportunities.
