Frequently Asked Questions

When and where is NGDI?
Monday, June 21 - Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at the Huckabee offices near Hulen Mall in Fort Worth. On Sunday, June 27, we will be traveling to Lubbock, Texas to Texas Tech University to work in the architectural studios. This will be an overnight trip, returning Tuesday, June 29.

How much does it cost?
Nothing - it's absolutely free to you! All it requires is ten days of your time and your own transportation to the Huckabee offices. Lunch will be provided every day, and the trip to Lubbock is totally covered.

How many students will be selected?
Six students will be selected and will be placed into three teams of two.

What is the project?
"OFF THE GRID" - The 2010 NGDI Project will be a 4,800 ft2 house for Happy Hill Farm Academy. The house will receive energy from 4 wind turbines. Approximately 2,400 kWH of energy will be provided from the turbines each month. In order to supply all the energy each house uses, you must supplement that with another form of renewable energy.

In addition to wind turbines, you must include 5 sustainable strategies including at least 1 site-related strategy.
