“Off the Grid”

A self-sustaining house today would be the epitome of sustainable living. Nowadays, people are always searching for ways to be "green" - so, why not design a completely self-sustaining house that requires no dependence on the city's power grid? But instead, it would run solely off of wind, solar power and other forms of renewable energy and be constructed of sustainable materials for an overall, low impact to the environment.

Through research, teamwork and a lot of hard work, these students created a conceptual design for a completely self-sustaining house for a local residential school, Happy Hill Farm Academy, an Interdenominational Residential Christian school located on a 250-acre working farm. The house was to be designed completely "off the grid" - meaning, the house would provide all energy for itself through wind, sun or other sustainable energy sources.
