The 2008 Next Generation Design Institute Program
Abstract:
For couples who choose adoption to grow their families, the placement of a child is one of the most beloved and cherished moments of their lives. They have dreamed of a child for years, then finally, a baby is placed in their arms to call their son or daughter.
Now, imagine where that moment happens.
This year’s project will challenge you to create a warm, welcoming environment where families are formed. The Gladney Center for Adoption facilitates the placement of children into forever homes. Huckabee is teaming with the agency to allow you to design a new Family Services Center on the Gladney campus to house these special spaces that will become imprinted and remembered as a place where a family was born. Spaces will include agency staff offices, placement rooms and home-like hotel rooms for families awaiting the placement of a child. The space should also include a supporting great room and kitchen area and might have outdoor spaces as well.
